MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team earned its 10th consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award for its work in the classroom announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
WVU was honored for its team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the 2010-11 academic year. The Mountaineers posted a team GPA of 3.25 last year, marking WVU as one of 15 BIG EAST Conference teams honored with the award.
“We are very proud of this team academic award,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “To be honored for our hard work on and off the field for 10 straight years is very impressive. Our ladies, along with Erica Wycherley in our academic support office, deserve all the credit.”
West Virginia finished the 2011 season with a 17-5-0 record, 10-1-0 in BIG EAST play. The team won the program’s fifth BIG EAST division title and third conference tournament title in the last five years.
