Women's Soccer: Virginia Tech Is The Draw

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The BIG EAST champion West Virginia women’s soccer team will start its quest for the 2011 NCAA College Cup against Virginia Tech in the opening round of tournament action Saturday, Nov. 12, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Mountaineers are serving as one of 32 host schools for the first round of the national tournament – a new format for this season. Saturday’s match will begin at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to Charlottesville, Va., for second and third round action (on-campus at the highest remaining seeds in that portion of the bracket).
WVU is 3-0-0 all-time against the Hokies, with one contest played in Morgantown (1999) and two in Blacksburg (2000, 2002). All three meetings took place in the regular season.
Virginia Tech enters the NCAA tournament as one of 34 at-large selections. The Hokies are making their fourth straight NCAA appearance. Tech holds a 12-7-1 record this season with wins over North Carolina, Miami and Connecticut, and a scoreless draw with Wake Forest.
West Virginia holds a record of 17-4-0 after its 2-0 blanking of Louisville in the BIG EAST finals. The Mountaineers have advanced to the NCAA tournament in 12 consecutive seasons, advancing as far as the Elite Eight in 2007. WVU has hosted the NCAA tournament in five previous seasons (2001, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2010).
Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and senior citizens. Admission is free for West Virginia University students with a valid student ID. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets in advance for $2 through the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum or by calling 1-800-WVU GAME.
NCAA quarterfinal matches will be played the weekend of Nov. 25. The 30th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played Dec. 2 and 4 at KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.
