Women's Basketball: Carey's Class Ranked

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s basketball coach Mike Carey signed five players to the class of 2012, a class that has earned national attention in top rankings.
Blue Star Basketball announced today that West Virginia’s class made up of Bria Holmes (Hamden, Conn./James Hillhouse), Lanay Montgomery (Germantown, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross), Darius Faulk (New York, N.Y./Nazareth Regional), Jennie Simms (Accokeek, Md./Riverdale Baptist) and Makenzie White (Danville, W.Va./Scott) ranks No. 4 in the nation. Connecticut led the college class rankings along with Texas A&M and North Carolina closing out the top three, respectively.
In addition to Blue Star, ESPN’s 2012 women’s college basketball team recruiting rankings put West Virginia at No. 9 at the start of October. November opened and Georgia Tech and North Carolina crept in front of the Mountaineers, pushing WVU back to No.11.
“It is great to be recognized in these rankings and we feel like we did bring in a great class,” Carey says. “The future of women’s basketball here at West Virginia is bright, but we also realize we need to get these players in here and they need to mesh with the rest of the players and work hard. Our goal is always to try to win a national championship and this recruiting class gets us in line to continue to work toward that goal and also bring in some of the best players in the country.”
