CHICAGO – West Virginia junior tailback Dustin Garrison is nominated for the Running Back Performance of the Year, Intersport announced today.
The Running Back Performance of the Year is part of a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season. The winners will be revealed during the two hour All-Star Football Challenge special airing at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 3 on ESPN2. In addition to recognizing the season’s top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football’s biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13 year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge.
From now until the end of Bowl season, the two top running backs of the week will be featured on the All-Star Football Challenge Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AllStarFootball), along with two top individual performers among quarterbacks, receivers and defensive players. The top weekly vote-getter will proceed to the finals, which run Jan. 19-25.
Garrison ran for 291 yards and two touchdowns in the 55-10 blowout over Bowling Green. Before the game, the freshmen running back had 65 total yards on the season. By halftime, Garrison had already racked up 233 yards in just the second start of his young career.
The other week four nominee for Running Back Performance of the Year is Montee Ball of Wisconsin. A junior running back, Ball carried the ball a career-high 30 times, for 151 yards and four touchdowns in an impressive 48-17 victory over then-ranked #8 Nebraska. The performance was Ball’s 11th straight game with a touchdown, a stretch where he has tallied 29 total scores.
At the other positions, week four nominees include Arkansas’ Tyler Wilson and USC’s Matt Barkley at quarterback, Illinois’ A.J. Jenkins and Arkansas’ Jarius Wright at receiver, and Northwestern’s Brian Peters and Nevada’s Brett Roy on defense.
