MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the third straight week, West Virginia freshman Hope Sloanhoffer has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week.
The Cornwall, N.Y., native has not relinquished the honor since receiving the season’s first award on Jan. 11. She also was named the league’s specialist of the week on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18.
Sloanhoffer receives the honor after winning two events and finishing third in another at then-No. 10 NC State on Jan. 21. After scoring 9.8 on vault and finishing third overall with the meet’s second-best score, she tied teammate Amy Bieski and NCSU’s Stephanie Ouellette for first on floor with a 9.825 score, then won beam outright with a 9.85 mark. She has now scored 9.8 or better in 10 of 12 career events.
Entering her fourth week of collegiate competition, Sloanhoffer is nationally ranked No. 23 on floor and No. 41 on vault; those rankings are the second- and first-best in the EAGL. Additionally, she ranks No. 5 in the league on beam.
After two road meets in one week, the Mountaineers return to the WVU Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 29, for a 7 p.m. meet against EAGL foes Pitt and Rutgers.
