Gymnastics: WVU Nationally Ranked in Three Events

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Despite falling just outside the Top 25 team rankings, the West Virginia gymnastics team is nationally ranked in three events in today’s GymInfo Poll.
The Mountaineers (2-2, 0-1 EAGL) are ranked No. 23 on beam (48.3) and floor (48.638), and are No. 24 on vault (48.606).
As a team, WVU ranks No. 26 with a 193.775 average; the Mountaineers entered the rankings on Jan. 10 at No. 13 and slid to No. 18 last week. Today’s rankings are based on season averages.
Freshman Hope Sloanhoffer paces the Mountaineers with two national rankings. The Cornwall, N.Y., native is No. 23 on floor (9.838) and No. 41 on vault (9.825). Senior Amy Bieski joins Sloanhoffer on the floor rankings and checks in at No. 34 (9.831).
The Mountaineers continue to rank No. 4 in the southeast region. The team also ranks No. 4 on vault and bars (48.231), is No. 5 on beam and No. 6 on floor.
Bieski is regionally ranked on four events. The Nanticoke, Pa., native peaks at No. 10 on floor and all-around (38.719); she also ranks No. 20 on bars (9.706) and No. 23 on vault (9.725).
Sloanhoffer precedes Bieski in the floor rankings at No. 7. The two-time reigning East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Specialist and Rookie of the Week also ranks No. 7 on vault and No. 15 on beam (9.756).
Senior Emily Kerwin paces the Mountaineers on bars with a No. 16 ranking (9.738), while junior Nicole Roach ranks No. 22 (9.7). Additionally, sophomore Kaylyn Millick ranks No. 13 in the all-around (38.35), while junior Tina Maloney owns the No. 22 vault ranking (9.731).
The Mountaineers continue to rank No. 2 in the EAGL; the team also ranks No. 3 on vault, bars and beam, and No. 4 on floor.
Sloanhoffer is the league’s top-ranked vaulter, ranks No. 2 on floor and No. 5 on beam.
Bieski ranks No. 4 on floor and No. 5 in the all-around, where Millick checks in at No. 10. Additionally, Kerwin owns the No. 8 bars ranking.
The Mountaineers are coming off a last-second 194.55-194.475 defeat at then-No. 10 NC State on Jan. 21 in their league season-opener; the Wolfpack, the top-ranked team in the EAGL, rank No. 13 nationally this week.
After two road meets in five days, the Mountaineers return to the WVU Coliseum and play host to Pitt and Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m.
