Women's Track: State Farm Games Wrapup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team led competition at the WVU State Farm Games today taking first in a total of eight events.
Senior Chelsea Carrier continued to post top finishes, taking first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.46) and the long jump (6.07 meters), while freshman Chene Townsend finished first in the 60-meter dash (7.81) and second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85).
Kaylyn Christopher also had a solid performance in the 3,000-meter race, as she finished with a time of 9:43.41, over a minute in front of second place.
West Virginia posted a dominating performance in the 5,000-meter run as Sarah-Anne Brault took second (17:19.34), Kate Harrison finished third (17:19.35), Jessica O’Connell fourth (17:19.35) and Kaitlyn Gillespie finished fifth (17:19.37), all qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships.
The mile saw the same pattern as Jordan Hamric placed first (5:07.01), Sarah Martinelli finished second (5:07.84), Hallie Portner finished third (5:08.33) and Stephanie Caruso placed fourth (5:18.93).
WVU’s 4x400-meter relay team then capped off the running events with a first¬-place showing. The team of Carrier, Shakiyla Cosby, Jordann Mitchell and Brittany Wolford finished with a time of 3:58.38.
In the weight throw, Terina Miller took the top spot after throwing 15.31 meters, while Heather Adams followed in second (15.02 meters), Brittany Thomas in fourth (14.18 meters) and Alanna Pritts in sixth (13.11 meters).
Katyln Shelar won her second-straight meet in the pole vault (3.40 meters), while Lindsay Kopenhaver finished second (3.25 meters) and Gabrielle Harrington and Kimberly Mulvin tied for third (3.10 meters).
West Virginia will continue its indoor season next weekend with the Penn State National Invitational on Jan. 28-29.
