Football: Two Make ECAC All-Star Team

CAPE COD, Mass. -- University of Connecticut junior tailback Jordan Todman has been selected as the 2010 ECAC Football Bowl Subdivision Offensive Player of the Year. Todman led the Huskies to a Big East title and the program’s first ever BCS game. He finished the season as the nation’s fourth leading rusher with a total of 1,695 yards to go with 14 touchdowns. The junior tailback had over 100 yards on the ground in ten of UConn’s 13 games and was first amongst Big East running backs in both rushing yards and touchdowns.
The 2010 ECAC Football Bowl Subdivision Defensive Player of the Year is Luke Kuechly of Boston College. Kuechly, a first team All-American, led the nation in tackles with 183 and made 10.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. The sophomore linebacker also intercepted three passes and recovered three fumbles. Kuechly is the third student-athlete from Boston College to win an ECAC Football Player of the Year Award in the last six years, joining Mathias Kiwanuka (2005) and Matt Ryan (2007).
Danny O’Brien, a redshirt freshman from the University of Maryland, has been selected as the 2010 ECAC Football Bowl Subdivision Rookie of the Year. O'Brien started ten games for the Terrapins, guiding the team to a 9-4 finish that resulted in a win at the Military Bowl. O’Brien completed 57% of his passes for 2,348 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Additionall, Pittsburgh placed five players on the All-ECAC team to lead all FBS institutions, while Maryland had four players honored.
The ECAC will honor the players and rookies of the year in each division and region on February 17 at the annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet presented by FieldTurf, an event held in the Touchdown Club at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
