MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to Notre Dame this afternoon at the Purcell Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind.
The Irish are 8-5 on the season after defeating the Mountaineers (10-6) in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 28-26) match.
“Today was a great learning opportunity for our team, one that will help us without a doubt,” coach Jill Kramer says. “We are now looking ahead to DePaul on Sunday.”
Notre Dame dominated the first and second sets, as Andrea McHugh posted 16 kills 13 digs to lead the Irish in the match.
However, WVU fought back to post a tough set three, when the Mountaineers jumped to a quick 12-7 lead after kills from sophomore Whitney Lee and junior Michelle Kopecky.
WVU maintained a lead over the Irish, until a kill from Kellie Sciacca started a 6-0 run to tie the set at 24. Notre Dame then stepped up to take the set and the match after two-straight kills from Kristen Dealy.
Despite the loss, Kopecky led with eight kills, while junior setter Kari Post recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.
WVU continues BIG EAST action with a 2 p.m. match against DePaul in Chicago, Ill., on Sunday, Sept. 26.
