Gymnastics Diary: Faye Meaden
September 21, 2010 03:54 PM | General
Throughout the WVU gymnastics team’s 2011 fall preseason, the Mountaineers will take the time out of their busy schedules to share stories of practice and preparation with the fans. This week’s entry comes from senior Faye Meaden. A two-time 2010 East Atlantic Gymnastics Conference Rookie of the Week, Meaden has proven over the course of her Mountaineer career that no obstacle is too tough to overcome. The Milton Keynes, England, native is a staple on the WVU bars and floor lineups, and has worked hard over the summer to upgrade her routines.

It is so great to have everyone back in the gym and working out together. We have a very talented team this season and everyone is practicing well. Hard work over the summer has definitely paid off for a lot of my teammates.
This past week was our first week of official practice and we have started out on a good note. On bars, we have already started practicing assignments that we didn’t start until October last season! This shows that we are determined to be more prepared this year.
I can’t believe this is my senior season at WVU. I can still remember my first day here as a freshman, nervous and excited as I walked into the gym. I have definitely grown over the past three years with this Mountaineer team, and over time, I have come to understand how important it is to make the most of your time here. I am excited for my senior year!
Coming in as freshman can sometimes be difficult. You are in a whole new environment with new people, a new way of life and a complete change in the gym. It is difficult to adapt to change sometimes, and I think the freshmen this year are doing really well so far.
Team challenges are another new addition to our workouts. Our next challenge is today, and we must run the WVU Coliseum stairs as a team. The challenges definitely bring our team together, as we must all complete them as a group and work together to reach the finish.
Overall, I am very excited for the upcoming season and to watch everyone grow over the year. We have great talent and excitement in the gym and I am looking forward to what is to come. I want this to be my best year here at WVU, and we definitely have the team to do this.
