MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer redshirt junior Erica Henderson has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
A Rochester, N.Y., native, Henderson was outstanding in helping the Mountaineer defense post a shutout yesterday afternoon against the nation’s No. 2 scoring offense in Virginia. She also registered two team saves, standing her ground on the goalline to keep the Cavaliers off the scoreboard.
Henderson logged all 90 minutes in helping limit Virginia to six shots on-goal for the contest. The Mountaineer victory gave UVa its first loss of the season and marked the first time it had been held scoreless all season long.
The Mountaineers resume play on Thursday, Sept. 23, with an 8 p.m. EST BIG EAST Conference match at Marquette.
