MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Eager to begin another run for a championship season, the No. 15 West Virginia University cross country team begins the 2010 campaign by hosting the WVU Invitational on Sat., Sept. 4, at 9:40 a.m. at the WVU Agronomy Farm.
The Mountaineers will have a one-on-one battle against West Virginia Wesleyan College in a race to the finish line.
"We expect a lot out of this season even with a young team," says WVU coach Sean Cleary. "We hope to give our runners some experience by participating in this small meet and allow them to compete in an actual meet atmosphere. This year should be another good one for us."
As a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, West Virginia Wesleyan is coming off a strong 2009 season in which they claimed their 15th conference title in the last 16 years. Overall the team has won 17 WVIAC titles since 1989 under coach Jesse Skiles.
While parking at the agronomy farm is very limited, there are gravel roads that wind throughout where fans can park. Farm officials highly encourage parking wherever there is gravel and to stay off of the grass.
"We would love fans to come out and support the team," Cleary says. "Any time you run at home it gives the girls an extra incentive to finish strong."
Directions:
To access the WVU Agronomy Farm from I-68: Take exit 7: Airport/Mileground exit. From there, go straight through the stoplight of the Glenmark Center intersection. Make the next right onto Old Cheat Road near the bottom of the hill. After about half a mile, Agronomy Farm Road will be on the left.
