Rifle: Campriani, Hammond Shoot Prone at Worlds

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior Nicco Campriani and rifle coach Jon Hammond completed competition in the 50m men’s rifle prone at the 50th International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Championship, today, at the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range of Munich in Munich, Germany.
Campriani, a two-time National Rifle Association first team All-American, shot 596 (100-99-99-100-99-99) in today’s qualification relay and finished 27th overall. The Florence, Italy, native qualified for the competition via his 40th-place finish with a score of 591 (99-99-98-98-98-99) in yesterday’s elimination relay.
Ranked No. 5 in the world prior to the championship, Campriani recently achieved a new level of success in the event, having won the gold medal at the Fort Benning ISSF World Cup on May 30.
Today’s finish follows his win in the 10m men’s air rifle on July 31. The victory gave Campriani’s Italian team the first Olympic quota place.

Hammond, the fifth-year Mountaineer coach and a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, finished 29th overall with a score of 595 (99-99-99-100-98-100). A member of the Great Britain squad, Hammond advanced to today’s qualification relay after finishing 14th in yesterday’s elimination relay with a score of 593 (97-99-98-100-100-99).
Campriani and Hammond return to the range tomorrow for the 50m men’s rifle 3 position elimination relay. The event’s qualification relay and finals are scheduled for Aug. 4.
