MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team received its first ranking of the 2010 season Tuesday. The Mountaineers were tabbed No. 24 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll.
Two WVU opponents are ranked in the NSCAA poll: Penn State (No. 13) and Virginia (No. 17), while three others received votes: Connecticut, Marquette and Ohio State. Today’s poll is the first of 11 rankings throughout the season by the NSCAA.
West Virginia will play two exhibition matches, starting tonight by playing host to Indiana at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers will also travel to Wake Forest on Aug. 14 to complete the preseason.
The Mountaineers return eight starters and 13 letterwinners from last season’s squad that advanced to the NCAA second round. Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown begins her 15th season in charge of the Mountaineers and has led her teams to 10 straight NCAA tournament appearances.
