“Sidney's team, 1st Alliance, played a great match in the final of the AAU Championships in Orlando this summer,” WVU volleyball coach Veronica Hammersmith says. “It was exciting to watch them play. Sidney was a dominant force, blocking and hitting in the match, and really helped her team succeed. She was a good choice for the all-star team.”
Sauter aided 1st Alliance Club to a 13-0 record in the tournament as it defeated Club South in a 2-0 (25-20, 25-12) match, to take the national title.
A Woodridge, Ill., native, Sauter is set to join the Mountaineers this fall as a 6-foot-1 rightside hitter and first team all-conference player from Naperville North High. During her high school career, Sauter was one of the 2009 Chicago Tribune Top 20 Players to Watch and a 2009 AVCA All-American nominee.
The Mountaineers are set to begin the 2010 season with the WVU Classic on Aug. 28-29. WVU will take on Howard at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, for its first match of the season.
