MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior Nicco Campriani finished 17th overall in the 50M men’s prone competition at the Belgrade International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup, today, in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Florence, Italy, native shot 591 (98, 97, 99, 98, 100, 99) in the first elimination round and 594 (99, 99, 100, 99, 98, 99) in the qualification relay.
Campriani took gold in the event at the Fort Benning ISSF World Cup, in Fort Benning, Ga., on May 30. His winning score of 703.2 was comprised of a near-perfect 599 qualification relay and a 104.2 mark in the finals.
A two-time National Rifle Association All-American, Campriani’s prone showing today completes a strong week of competition in which he won the 10M men’s air rifle and finished 14th in the 50M men’s 3 position.
“Nicco had a great performance in each of the matches this week,” says fifth-year WVU coach Jon Hammond. “Obviously, his air rifle was excellent, and I know he was delighted to finally get a medal in his best event at a world cup. His 3 position and prone results also were really consistent. I’m sure he’s looking forward to the world championships, where I hope he has more outstanding performances.”
Campriani and Hammond will compete next in the men’s open competition at the 50th ISSF World Championships, held July 29 – Aug. 11, in Munich, Germany. WVU junior Michael Kulbacki will join the duo and will compete for the United States in the men’s junior 10M air rifle competition.
