Rifle: Campriani Takes Gold

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior Nicco Campriani won his second world cup gold medal in as many months, as he finished first in the 10M men’s air rifle with a final score of 701.2 at the Belgrade International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup on June 28, in Belgrade, Serbia.
The two-time National Rifle Association All-American moved on to the air rifle championship with the third-best qualification score of 597 (99, 99, 100, 100, 99, 100). Campriani ascended to the top of the podium shooting 104.2 in the finals for his winning total.
“I am happy that I finally made it (the last shot),” Campriani said to the ISSF after his victory. “I have been looking for a world cup medal in this event for a while.”
This week’s medal is the Italian shooter’s second in two months, as the Florence native previously won the 50M men’s rifle prone gold on May 30 at the Fort Benning ISSF World Cup, in Fort Benning, Ga.
Campriani also finished 14th in the 50M 3 position on June 30 with a score of 1165. He shot 1165 (389 prone, 388 standing, 388 kneeling) in the elimination round and 1165 (394 prone, 381 standing, 390 kneeling) in the qualification relay.
Fifth-year Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond, representing Great Britain, also shot in the 50M 3 position, scoring 1161 (397 prone, 375 standing, 389 kneeling) in the elimination round and 1141 (394 prone, 367 standing, 380 kneeling) in the qualification relay.
The Belgrade ISSF World Cup is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with the 50M men’s rifle prone qualification and final.
