Fans are invited to join Mountaineer soccer coaches this Saturday at Damon's in Morgantown to watch the USA take on England in their 2010 World Cup opener. The watch party will get underway at 2 p.m.
Those attending will have the chance to meet WVU head men's soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc along with new men's soccer assistant coach Brian Johnson. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet assistant coach Lisa Stoia from the Mountaineer women's soccer program.
Damon's Grill in Morgantown is located at the Suncrest Towne Centre off of Route 705. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Fans attending will have the chance to win prizes, including WVU soccer t-shirts, tickets and rally towels.
LeBlanc and Johnson, who came to WVU from Major League Soccer professional team Real Salt Lake, have many ties to the US men's soccer national team.
LeBlanc coached against several US men's national team players during their collegiate soccer careers, including Benny Feilhaber and Jonathan Bornstein (UCLA) and Clarence Goodson and Maurice Edu (Maryland).
During his playing days, Johnson played five years in the MLS and won a league title in 2000 with the Kansas City Wizards. As a coach, Johnson worked with current national team member Robbie Findley at Real Salt Lake and opposed several other USA squad members, including Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle and Bornstein during his coaching stint in MLS.
Stoia, a WVU alum, is a former BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and NSCAA second team All-American. Stoia also played for the St. Louis Athletica in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league in 2009.
