MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University pitcher Chris Enourato has officially signed a free-agent deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Enourato, who passed his physical examination on Wednesday, is expected to begin in either the Gulf Coast League in Dunedin, Fla., or with the Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League. The Bridgeport native is WVU’s career saves leader with 21, holds the school’s career appearances record with 72 and is fifth in career winning percentage with a 19-6 record (.750).
The 2009 all-BIG EAST third-team selection established himself as one of WVU’s top relievers in several ways. For his career, he recorded more strikeouts (179) than innings pitched (178.1), and had nearly a 3.5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He walked just 52 in 802 batters faced, and allowed just one triple for his career.
This past season, Enourato recorded a career-high nine strikeouts against Illinois on March 7 at Greenville, N.C. He is also a four-year letterwinner.
