MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University seniors Karly Hamric and Keri Bland qualified for the finals of the 1,500-meter race this evening in the second day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Hamric finished in third place in heat one with a time of 4:13.54 for an overall fifth-place finished. Bland followed in sixth (4:14.87) in the same heat and 11th overall.
“Today was a big day for the ladies. Semifinals are very rough on the coaches and the athletes,” coach Sean Cleary said. “Tactics, pressure and cobwebs are all quite evident. Karly and Keri handled themselves very well today. This is the first time that WVU has ever had two student-athletes in the NCAA finals in the 1,500 meter. We are very pleased.”
The duo will now compete in the finals set for 1:18 p.m. on Saturday.
Action continues tomorrow as senior Marie-Louise Asselin will run in the finals of the 5,000-meter run set for 10:40 p.m.
