According to Pro Football Talk, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano says White has added 18 pounds of muscle and decreased his body fat (it’s hard to believe he had any). Based on White’s listing of 190 pounds on the Dolphin web site, the added 18 pounds puts him close to 210.

Speaking of ex-Mountaineer quarterbacks, recent WVU Sports Hall of Fame inductee Marc Bulger was on Metro News Statewide Sportsline last week and he said he has had some offers from other NFL teams but is exploring his options looking for the right opportunity. The 33-year-old Bulger was released by the St. Louis Rams earlier this spring.

Jedd Gyorko finishes his Mountaineer career with four extra base hits in the Big East tournament, including a pair of home runs in the opening game against No. 1-seeded Louisville on Wednesday. Gyorko is being projected as a possible late first round choice in the major league draft that begins June 7 and one organization that might be interested in him is the New York Yankees, according to Mike Silva of New York Baseball Digest … http://nybaseballdigest.com/?p=25147

ESPN college basketball blogger Eamonn Brennan recently listed Butler as the 13th-most productive college player available for this year’s NBA draft.

The NBA draft will take place June 24 in New York City.

Former Mountaineer All-American Rod Thorn has added the responsibility of general manager to his role as team president of the New Jersey Nets. The Nets have the third overall pick in this year’s draft and many believe Thorn will take either Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors or Ohio State’s Evan Turner if he falls to No. 3.

Thorn, the NBA executive of the year in 2002, is most famous for drafting Michael Jordan while general manager of the Chicago Bulls.


	Jessica O'Connell

West Virginia has five qualified for the national track finals taking place next weekend in Eugene, Ore., but the Mountaineers could have very easily had a sixth if not for some misfortune in the 1,500 on Saturday. Junior Jessica O’Connell was tripped on the final leg of her heat and finished 10th with a time of 4:30.05, eight seconds slower than her time on Thursday to advance to Saturday’s round. O’Connell could have very easily finished in the top five and advanced to Eugene had she not been tripped.

After the race, the WVU coaching staff lodged an official protest. Still, West Virginia will have its most-ever qualifiers for the outdoor finals, topping the four sent in 2005 and 2003.

Keri Bland, qualified in the 1,500 after winning her individual race on Saturday, is the only athlete in school history to earn All-America honors in three different sports in the same year in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.

Clara Grandt, who won the 10K on Thursday night, can duplicate that feat next weekend.

National champion Megan Metcalfe owns the school record with nine All-America citations but Bland and Marie-Louise Asselin are hot on her heels. Bland has seven with next weekend’s outdoor race and a full indoor and outdoor season of eligibility remaining.

Asselin, with six, also has a full indoor and outdoor season left next year.

NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte will honor the 29 fallen miners at Upper Big Branch, W.Va., by wearing a special paint scheme on his car at this weekend’s race in Charlotte. Labonte is hoping to raise awareness for the Upper Big Branch Family Fund to help the families of the mining tragedy.
