Track: Mountaineers Travel to NCAA Regionals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is set to travel to Greensboro, N.C., on May 27-29, for the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Meet.
Held on the campus of North Carolina State, the East Regionals will serve as the preliminary round for the NCAA Championships which are set to take place on June 9-12, in Eugene, Ore. Competition for the regionals is set to begin at 10 a.m., on Thursday, with the field events.
“It is rare that your entire group comes to the championship like this without any hiccups,” coach Sean Cleary says. “The training has been done. Now it is just a matter of focusing on the task at hand.”
This season WVU has 10 student-athletes set to compete in the regionals including, seniors Marie-Louise Asselin, Keri Bland, Clara Grandt, Karly Hamric, juniors Kaylyn Christopher, Jessica O'Connell, Kate Harrison, Ahna Lewis, Katelyn Williams and sophomore Sarah-Anne Brault.
Williams will start competition with the high jump at 5 p.m., on Thursday, while Bland, Hamric, Christopher and O’Connell will run in the first round of 1,500-meter race at the same time.
Grandt will end the day with an appearance in the semifinals of the 10,000-meter race at 9:15 p.m.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, with the quarterfinals of the 1,500 at 6:45 p.m., the semifinals of the 5,000-meter race. Asselin, Harrison, Lewis and Brault are set to represent the Mountaineers in the 5,000 meter.
