MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The West Virginia University track and field team looks to the NCAA Championships with 10 student-athletes set to compete in the first round, the NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, N.C., on May 27-29, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced.
“We came into the outdoor season hoping to get 10 qualified, and we did just that,” coach Sean Cleary says. “This is the first year with this qualifying system, and I am encouraged with the shape and mental state of each and every girl that will be competing.”
This season the NCAA has set up new qualifying standards, as the regional events will serve as the first round of the NCAA Championships.
The Mountaineers have four accepted to race in the 1,500-meter event, including seniors Keri Bland, Karly Hamric and juniors Kaylyn Christopher and Jessica O’Connell, while senior Clara Grandt will race in the 10,000-meter run.
Senior Marie-Louise Asselin, juniors Kate Harrison, Ahna Lewis and sophomore Sarah-Anne Brault have also been accepted to run in the 5,000-meter run.
Junior Katelyn Williams will represent the Mountaineers in the high jump.
The NCAA Championships are set to take place on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
