Three Named Academic All-District II

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University shooters Andy Lamson and Nicco Campriani and gymnast Kiersten Spoerke were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II at large men’s and women’s teams today as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Lamson, a Colchester, Vt., native, is one of 10 District II University Division first team selections and will now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot. A 2010 NRA first team air rifle and second team smallbore All-American, Lamson is a six-time all-GARC honoree, two-time GARC scholar athlete and placed 12th in air rifle at the 2010 NCAA Championships. The junior shot personal bests of 594 in air gun, 583 in smallbore and 1177 in aggregate this past season in helping the Mountaineers to an 11-0 record and GARC regular season and post season championships. He boasts a 3.96 GPA in business management.
Campriani, a Florence, Italy, native, garnered all-District II second-team honors after boasting a 3.79 GPA in industrial engineering. This past season, the junior set school records in air rifle (598), smallbore (593) and combined score (1189) and garnered 2010 NRA first team air rifle and smallbore All-America honors. He placed first in air gun (699.8), smallbore (691.6) and combined score (1187) at the 2010 GARC Championships, helping the Mountaineers win the league title for the first time since 2000. Campriani only competed in six matches for the Mountaineers due to NCAA transfer rules.
Spoerke, a senior from Suwannee, Ga., boasted a 3.87 GPA in mechanical engineering in being honored as an all-District II second-team performer. The three-time all-EAGL honoree, three-time NCAGC/W Scholastic All-American and four-time EAGL all-Academic team member tallied season bests of 9.875 and 9.825 on beam and floor, respectively, and ranked seventh in the EAGL and 16th in the Southeast region with a team-best 9.765 RQS. She also helped the team to 21-12 season and helped WVU qualify for its 27th NCAA regional appearance in school history.
