Rowing: WVU Finishes Sixth at BIG EAST

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team finished in sixth place with 63 points at the BIG EAST Championship today, on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The Mountaineers improved from their last year’s finish, in which they took eighth place with 38 points.
WVU topped Villanova in two head-to-head battles in the Varsity 8+ and the second Varsity 8+ Petite Finals, edging the Wildcats with winning times of 7:37.155 and 8:05.743.
The Mountaineers’ Varsity 4+ boat of Amanda Hirsch, Kaitlyn Brownson, Kensie Phillips, Brittany Brooks, with coxswain Anastasia DuPont, took third with a time of 8:33.214, behind Notre Dame (8:08.885) and Georgetown (8:27.224).
The Novice 8+ boat crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 8:02.346 ahead of Louisville (8:03.654) and Syracuse (8:24.194), while the second Varsity 4+ boat crossed the line in 9:27.963 to finish fifth.
The Fighting Irish won their seventh-straight conference with 121 points, while Georgetown came in second with 93 points and Syracuse finished in third with 84 points.
WVU will conclude their season on Saturday, May 1, with a trip to Cherry Hill, N.J. to compete in the ECAC Regatta.
