MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will continue BIG EAST action on April 16-17 as they travel to compete against Villanova on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a noon match on Saturday against Rutgers.
The Mountaineers improved their record to 15-5 in the regular season and 5-1 in the BIG EAST after last week’s 6-1 victories over Duquesne and BIG EAST foe Seton Hall.
“We are playing with some confidence right now and looking for a big weekend to guarantee a solid seed at the tourney next week,” says coach Marc Walters. “The team is healthy, confident and has some momentum, so we have a good chance to win since we are all playing well.”
WVU finished last week with a 6-1 victory over Seton Hall on Thursday in its last home-match of the season, along with another 6-1 triumph on Seton Hall’s home-courts. This was the second-consecutive match that the Mountaineers swept the doubles competition to gain the lead early on.
Sophomore Kathryn Haught stood out once again as she increased her winning-streak to 9-0 while competing in the No. 5 singles spot.
Friday’s match will take place in Villanova, Pa., at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
