MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball player Jedd Gyorko has been recognized as one of Louisville Slugger’s National Players of the Week, announced today by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The Morgantown native and preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year had arguably his best offensive performance last week. In five games, Gyorko finished 10-for-25 with five home runs, nine RBIs, four doubles and 11 runs scored. He produced a career-high six RBIs against Maryland on April 7, scored a career-high five runs against St. John’s on April 11, posted two four-hit games and also had two multiple home run games.
Last week, Gyorko finished with 29 total bases, had a 1.160 slugging percentage and reached base 50 percent of the time. He also recorded his first stolen base on his only attempt this season.
Gyorko is batting .359 with a career-high 11 home runs, 33 RBIs, 15 doubles and 38 runs scored. He has struck out just once in every 13 plate appearances this season.
Gyorko’s award is his first national weekly accolade of his career.
