MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team is set to compete on March 7, as it travels to Morehead, Ky., for a 9 a.m. match against Morehead State. The team will continue play at 5 p.m. as it takes on West Virginia State University in Charleston, W.Va.
Morehead State will hold its match at the Wellness Center Indoor Courts and the Yellow Jackets will play host to the Mountaineers at the Charleston Tennis Club.
Last season, the Mountaineers broke the Eagles’ winning-streak with a 5-2 victory at the Ridgeview Racquet Club. WVU swept the doubles competition and won four of the six matches in the singles competition. Seniors Olga Elkin (No.1) and Stephanie LaFortune (No. 2), redshirt junior Monique Burton (No. 3) and sophomore Veronica Cardenas (No. 5) contributed to the win.
WVU holds a regular season record of 8-2 and a BIG EAST record of 4-0 after last weekend’s victories over BIG EAST foes Connecticut (6-1) and Cincinnati (5-2). WVU stood at 5-5, 1-2 in the BIG EAST at this point last season.
