Track: WVU Continues Outdoor Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is set to continue the outdoor season with a group competing at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the rest of the team competing at the Bill Van Horne Invitational in Wheeling, W.Va., on March 26-27.
Senior Clara Grandt, juniors Kate Harrison, Ahna Lewis, Stephanie Caruso and sophomore Sarah Anne Brault will travel to Stanford to compete in the 5,000-meter race on Friday.
The rest of the team is set to travel to Wheeling Jesuit for the annual Bill Van Horne Invitational. Competition is set to begin on Friday at 1 p.m. and continue through Saturday.
The Mountaineers began the outdoor season last weekend with an excellent showing at the Wake Forest Demon Deacon Open. Senior Karly Hamric led WVU with a first-place showing in the 3,000-meter race, posting a personal-best time of 9:46.08 to finish nearly 12 seconds in front of the competition.
WVU was also represented well in the field events as junior Katelyn Williams finished in first place in the high jump after clearing a personal-best height of 1.78 meters. In the discus, sophomore Brittany Fink led the Mountaineers with a sixth-place finish after throwing a BIG EAST qualifying distance of 40.06 meters.
