MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to Richmond, Va., to take part in a pair of showcase matches this weekend at the Jefferson Cup.
West Virginia will face regional foes Virginia and William & Mary in a pair of contests on Saturday, March 20, at Sportsbackers Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. against the Cavaliers and 5 p.m. against the Tribe.
“We are looking forward to getting back out there and competing after a few weeks of good training sessions,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Playing two quality programs like Virginia and William & Mary will again allow us to see where we need to improve as a team this spring.”
WVU’s spring season will conclude on April 25 with a match at Ohio State. The Mountaineers return the bulk of their roster from a year ago, losing only three starters from the 2009 team that made a 10th-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
Next up for the Mountaineers are matches against Pitt and Akron in the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational on April 10 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
