MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will play host to non-conference foe California (Pa.) on Sunday, March 14, in a 3 p.m., match at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
“Cal (Pa.) has a potential Division ll player of the year in Julie Cohen, who is a transfer from the University of Miami,” says head coach Marc Walters. “They are a legitimate contender for the Division ll national title, so we will have our hands full.”
The Mountaineers hold a regular season record of 10-2 and are now 4-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Vulcans go 11-3.
“We have been winning over 50 percent of our matches at the 1-3 singles for our last five matches, so we are happy with our confidence going into this match,” adds Walters. “If we grind out our matches in the 3-6 spots, I see us being successful this weekend.”
WVU finished last weekend with two non-conference wins on Sunday over Morehead State in a 6-1 match, followed by another 6-1 victory over West Virginia State University.
