MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 1, 2010) – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (26-3, 13-2) moved up one spot to No. 7 in today’s Associated Press Top 25 poll, receiving 726 votes, 20 more than it did last week.
The ranking continues to be the highest-ever in the Associated Press poll for the program. WVU was ranked No. 7 in the coaches’ poll last week with the latest edition of the poll being released tomorrow afternoon.
WVU is one of five BIG EAST teams ranked in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 as it joins No. 1 Connecticut, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 12 Georgetown and No. 16 St. John’s in the rankings.
The Mountaineers are fresh off a 69-56 victory against Marquette this past Saturday in the regular season home finale. WVU has won six straight contests, has already secured a double-bye in the upcoming BIG EAST tournament and tied the school record for most victories in a season (1991-92).
West Virginia returns to action tonight at 7 p.m. when it takes on Syracuse (19-9, 6-9) at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. The game will be broadcast on MSN affiliated radio stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones on the call.
