Women's Basketball: WVU No. 8 in Coaches' Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 9, 2010) – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (21-3, 8-2) remained No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll, released today, receiving 551 votes. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 9 in yesterday’s Associated Press Poll.
The No. 8 ranking continues to mark the highest attained in program history.
WVU is one of five BIG EAST teams ranked in this week’s Coaches’ Poll Top 25 as it joins No. 1 Connecticut, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 13 Georgetown and No. 24 St. John’s in the rankings.
West Virginia returns to action against Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. The game will air on ESPNU and is the program’s Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Pink Zone contest. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of breast cancer awareness. The first 3,000 fans will receive pink towels and the WVU Team Shop in the Coliseum will also be selling t-shirts for the game and will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center at WVU.
The Morgantown Dominion Post will insert two free tickets to Pink Zone in every copy of the paper on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The contest will also air on MSN affiliated radio stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones and color analyst Jay Jacobs on the call. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.MSNsportsNET.com.
