MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team moved up two spots to No. 9 in the latest edition of the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released today, receiving 627 points.
The ranking is the highest-ever in the Associated Press poll for the program, surpassing last week’s ranking of No. 11, which was also met in 2008 and originally set in 1992. WVU was ranked No. 8 in last week’s Coaches’ Poll, marking the highest ranking, in either poll, in school history.
WVU is one of five BIG EAST teams ranked in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 as it joins No. 1 Connecticut, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 16 Georgetown and No. 25 St. John’s in the rankings.
West Virginia (21-3, 8-2) is idle until it returns to action against Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. The game will air on ESPNU and is the program’s Pink Zone contest. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of breast cancer awareness.
