Tennis: Redhawks Take Down Mountaineers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team was defeated, 6-1, by No. 71, Miami-Ohio today, in Huntington, W.Va.
"I was very disappointed that some of our players didn't step up and compete when given the chance to play against a good team," says coach Marc Walters. "We need to find a way to get into these matches if we want to find any respect from other top teams."
The Redhawks took the lead after sweeping the doubles competition, starting off the day 0-1, for the Mountaineers. WVU put up a fight in the No. 1-5, spots but continued to struggle through the singles competition.
Freshman Liv Pettersson posted the lone win for the Mountaineers in the No. 6, spot, as she defeated Miamo-Ohio's Cara Wald 0-6, 7-5(10-0), after trailing 4-1 in the second set.
The Mountaineers will return to action tomorrow, Feb. 7, as they travel to Richmond, Ky., to face Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m.
