Track: Mountaineers Complete Competition

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three members of the West Virginia University track and field team met NCAA provisional times after the Mountaineers completed action today at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City and the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup in University Park, Pa.
At the New Balance Collegiate Invite, junior Jessica O’Connell posted a career-best performance in the mile with an NCAA provisional time of 4:43.73.
In the 3,000-meter race, the Mountaineers took the top three spots as seniors Marie-Louise Asselin and Kaylyn Christopher also posted NCAA provisional times after finishing in first (9:25.79) and second (9:30.95), respectively.
Senior Clara Grandt also had a good race, finishing in third with a time of 9:33.57.
WVU also had a good showing at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge at Penn State, as junior Stephanie Caruso posted a BIG EAST qualifying time of 5:01.91 in the mile.
In the high jump, junior Katelyn Williams finished in fourth (1.70 meters), while freshman Sydney Cummings tied for fifth (1.70 meters).
WVU will continue action next weekend with the Gold-Blue Meet at the WVU Shell Building, before heading to the BIG EAST Championships in New York on Feb. 20-21.
