MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s swimming and diving team has been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar-Athlete Award All-American team for its work in the classroom last fall.
WVU is one of 341 teams in all divisions to post a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the 2009 fall semester. The Mountaineers posted a team GPA of 3.14 last semester.
“I’m very proud of the woman for their efforts in the classroom and in the pool,” coach Vic Riggs says. “As we continue to build the program’s reputation of being one of the best in the BIG EAST, I‘m very pleased to have the women earn this honor for the third consecutive semester.”
For the men, junior George Farquhar, a civil engineering major, was awarded as the 2009-10 BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete for WVU.
Both teams will be back in action at Pitt participating in the BIG EAST Championships. The diving competition will take place from Feb. 12-14, while the swimming portion will be from Feb. 17-20.
