MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball player Jedd Gyorko has been named a Baseball America preseason third-team All-American, the publication announced today.
Gyorko, who holds a career .415 batting average through his first two seasons, has been named a preseason All-American by four organizations during the offseason. The junior shortstop was named a second-team All-American by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Louisville Slugger, and earned first-team honors from Ping!Baseball.
The school’s career batting average leader enters his junior season as the preseason Big East Player of the Year. He finished his sophomore campaign batting .421 with eight home runs, 58 RBIs and a school-record 28 doubles. Gyorko burst onto the scene as a freshman batting .409 with eight home runs and 63 RBIs.
West Virginia begins its season at 12th-rated Coastal Carolina as part of the Caravelle Resort Tournament on Friday, Feb. 19, in Conway, S.C. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
