MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team opens its spring season with a match at Penn State on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. The teams will play a 90-minute contest at Holuba Hall, the Nittany Lion’s indoor facility.
“We are looking forward to kicking off the spring season with such a talented opponent in Penn State,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “It’s exciting to see the progress we can make from now until the end of the spring.”
Tomorrow’s match is the first of eight contests during the spring season, concluding with an April 25 contest at Ohio State. The Mountaineers return the bulk of its roster from a year ago, losing only three starters on the 2009 team that made a 10th-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
Next up for WVU is its annual 4-versus-4 tournament to raise funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. On March 6, teams will compete in the “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” all-day event at the Caperton Indoor Facility. The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight, with an open division for college-age and older groups.
