MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior Chelsi Tabor and freshman Chelsea Goldschrafe have been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Specialist and Rookie of the Week.
The honor is the second in five weeks for Tabor, and the third of her career. Goldschrafe’s recognition is a career first.
This week’s awards are the ninth and 10th of the year for WVU (11-4, 6-0 EAGL). At least one Mountaineer has been honored in five of this season’s seven weeks.
Tabor, a Beckley, W.Va., native, earned her honor after a strong performance at Penn State on Feb. 20 in which she tied for second place on vault with 9.825 points, and tied for third place on beam with a career-best 9.8 score.
Tabor broke on to the vault national rankings yesterday and ranks 47th with a 9.81 regional qualifying score (RQS). The RQS is good enough for the No. 6 ranking in the southeast region and the No. 1 ranking in the EAGL. Additionally, Tabor paces the Mountaineer beam squad with a 9.735 average.

Goldschrafe’s first career honor follows her season-best performance at Penn State. Down 0.2 points to the Nittany Lions at the onset of the final rotation, the Franklin Lakes, N.J., native did all she could to narrow the gap as she opened the Mountaineers’ beam lineup with a career-best 9.85 score. Goldschrafe’s steadying routine prompted 9.8 performances from the two Mountaineers that followed. Additionally, she scored 9.75 on floor, the meet’s sixth-best score, and finished ninth overall.
Goldschrafe currently ranks 23rd on beam in the southeast region with a 9.385 RQS.
WVU, the EAGL’s No. 2 team with a 194.085 RQS, tallied a season-best 194.925 road score in a loss at then-No. 13 Penn State (195.95) on Feb. 20.
The Mountaineers continue their two-meet road trip at No. 11 Nebraska, with No. 18 Denver and No. 20 Arizona, on Sunday, Feb. 28. The quad-meet is set for a 2 p.m. CT start.
