MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (24-3, 11-2) moved up one spot to No. 8 in today’s Associated Press Top 25 poll, receiving 706 votes, 40 more than it did last week.
The ranking continues to be the highest-ever in the Associated Press poll for the program. WVU was ranked No. 8 in the coaches’ poll last week with the latest edition of the poll being released tomorrow afternoon.
WVU is one of five BIG EAST teams ranked in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 as it joins No. 1 Connecticut, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 13 Georgetown and No. 18 St. John’s in the rankings.
The Mountaineers are fresh off a 54-45 victory at USF this past Saturday and have won four straight contests. WVU is now one victory away from matching the school record for regular season wins set by the 1991-92 team with 25.
West Virginia returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. when it takes on Cincinnati (11-14, 4-9) at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati. The game will be broadcast on MSN affiliated radio stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones on the call.
