MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will take part in eight matches during the spring season, concluding with an April 25 contest at Ohio State.
“This spring schedule that we have put together is a great opportunity for our players to gain valuable experience,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “There are four road trips but it allows us to play a variety of teams and playing styles. This is a great opportunity for our individual play to develop into a higher level which will positively contribute to our team’s success this fall.”
West Virginia travels to Penn State on Feb. 27, for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff in State College, Pa. It’s the first of five competition dates allowed by the NCAA during the spring; WVU will play two games March 20, April 10 and April 17.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a two-game trip at the Jefferson Cup in Richmond, Va. West Virginia will face Virginia and William & Mary in pair of contests on March 20 at Sportsbackers Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. against the Cavaliers and 5 p.m. against the Tribe.
WVU will play Pitt and Akron in the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational on April 10 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Mountaineers and Panthers will kickoff at 11 a.m. with the Zips and WVU taking the field at 5 p.m.
ACC foes Wake Forest and Virginia Tech highlight an April 17 contest in Blacksburg, Va. WVU takes on the Hokies at noon and face Wake Forest at 2:30 p.m.
The spring booking concludes with a road match at Ohio State on April 25. The Mountaineers will square off against the Buckeyes at 2 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
Also this spring is West Virginia’s annual 4-versus-4 tournament to raise funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. On March 6, teams will compete in the “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” all-day event at the Caperton Indoor Facility. The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight, with an open division for college-age and older groups.
