Swimming: WVU Finishes Diving Competition

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The men’s divers for West Virginia University enjoyed outstanding performances on Saturday and Sunday of the BIG EAST Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. Senior Brandon Robinson, sophomore Matt O’Neill and freshman Ethan Robinson each scored points for the Mountaineers.
Brandon Robinson finished the 1-meter finals in seventh place with a courageous score of 264.75 points. During his fifth dive of the evening, Robinson was in mid-air when he came down and hit his head and wrist on the board, but still managed to compete in his sixth and final dive.
The Sicklerville, N.J., native, then competed in the 3-meter, where he finished fifth in the consolations (13th overall) with a score of 251.75 points.
O’Neill, a Lyndhurst, Ohio, native, finished in fourth place (12th overall) with 246.75 points on the 1-meter, while he also placed fourth (12th overall) on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.10 points.
Ethan Robinson had a very successful showing this weekend with a sixth-place finish (14th overall) on the 1-meter board with a score of 234.25 points. The Sicklerville, N.J., native, completed his weekend finishing 17th on the 3-meter board with a score of 200.75 points.
For the women, Ashley Malik placed 17th and 20th, respectively, on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. The Latrobe, Pa., native, finished the 1-meter with a score of 215.20 points and scored 209.00 points on the 3-meter.
The swimming portion of the BIG EAST Championships will be held from Feb. 17-20 at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa.
