MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Chelsea Carrier posted two life-time best performances this afternoon, as the West Virginia University track and field team completed action at the Gold-Blue Meet at the WVU Shell Building.
“Everything is going really well for Chelsea Carrier and she is a complete athlete right now,” coach Sean Cleary says. “This is where you hope athletes are at this time of the season. Overall, we came out of this weekend with what I think is required for going into competition at the BIG EAST Championships next week.”
Carrier’s first personal best came in 60-meter dash, as she finished first with a time of 7.60. The Buckhannon, W.Va., native then cleared 6.10 meters in the long jump for her second personal best of the day. She also posted a season-best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8:36.
Several Mountaineers had excellent performances today including senior Keri Bland, who finished first in the 800-meter run with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 2:11.43, while senior Jamie Cokeley qualified in the mile with a time of 5:08.41.
Junior Ahna Lewis and sophomore Sarah Anne Brault also had a good day, meeting conference qualifying times in the 3,000-meter race. The duo posted times of 9:55.70 and 9:55.76, respectively.
In the field events, WVU took the top spots in the pole vault as sophomore Lindsey Kopenhaver finished first (3.30 meters) and junior Nadia Pinna and sophomore Lori Rendos tied for second (3.05 meters).
Freshman Sydney Cummings and senior Natasha Redman tied for first in the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters, while junior Terina Miller took first in the weight throw (14.38).
The Mountaineers are set to travel to New York next weekend for the BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 20-21.
