Rifle: Trio Successful at Air Gun Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (December 6, 2010) – Three West Virginia University rifle student-athletes enjoyed varied levels of success at the 2010 USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championship, held Dec. 3-5, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Senior Nicco Campriani finished as the top collegiate shooter in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle each day, as the Florence, Italy, native shot successive scores of 596, 597 and 596.
Sophomore Petra Zublasing was equally strong in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle, as she too finished as the top collegiate shooter each day with successive scores of 393, 400 and 398.
Freshman Thomas Kyanko medaled on the championship’s second day, as he finished second in the Junior Men’s 10m Air Rifle with an aggregate score of 687.7. The Wellsburg, W.Va., native shot 586 in the open relay and 101.7 in the finals. Additionally, he finished 14th on Friday with a score of 578, and 18th on Sunday with a score of 577.
All three shooters shot unattached.
The No. 1-ranked Mountaineers (7-1, 5-0 GARC) are currently on winter break. The team returns to the WVU Rifle Range on Jan. 15 and welcomes to Akron at 8 a.m.
