Swimming: WVU Travels to Santa Barbara

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming team will take on UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Dec. 31, at 5 p.m., Eastern Time. The meet is held during the squads annual winter training trip.
The men (2-1 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) and women (2-3 overall, 1-2 BIG EAST) were both last in action at the UNC Nike Cup where they took fifth and fourth, respectively.
Multiple WVU swimmers swam to NCAA “B” cut times at the invitational. Senior Lyn Ann Nelson (500 free, 200 free, 800 free relay), junior Kata Fodor (500 free, 800 free relay), sophomore Rachael Burnett (400 IM, 800 free relay), sophomore Mandie Nugent (200 fly, 800 free relay) and Jared Goldthorpe (200 back) all swam to “B” cuts.
Gaucho swimmers Chris Peterson (50 free), Kevin Ferguson (50 free, 100 breast), Allie Knight (200 IM, 400 IM) and the men’s 200 free relay all made NCAA “B” cuts during the Arena Invitational hosted by UC San Diego.
Following the conclusion of the meet the Mountaineers will continue to train before taking on Claremont in Fullerton, Calif., on Jan.4.
