Women's Soccer: WVU/USF In BIG EAST Finals

TV CLEARANCES FOR SUNDAY'S TITLE GAMEPISCATAWAY, N.J. – The 16th-ranked West Virginia women’s soccer team will battle USF in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship finals on Sunday, Nov. 7, in Piscataway, N.J. Kickoff at Yurcak Field is scheduled for noon and will be televised live on CBS College Sports, along with several regional networks.
WVU will make its fourth conference finals appearance in school history, first since winning the 2007 championship. USF’s appearance in the title game is its first in school history.
“This was one of our goals heading into the season,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “I’m proud of the way the team has responded in the second half of the season, but we have one more game to play.
“Tomorrow’s match is going to be a battle. South Florida is a talented team with a lot of speed up top. We will have to stay focused the entire match to win a BIG EAST Championship.”
WVU moved into the title game following its 2-0 victory, yesterday, over Connecticut behind second half goals from forwards Megan Mischler and Frances Silva in BIG EAST semifinal action.
USF, led by fourth-year coach Denise Schilte-Brown, has now won six straight matches since dropping a 3-0 decision at UConn on Oct. 10. The Bulls advanced to the finals by defeating Georgetown (1-0, 2OT) and top-seed Marquette (3-2).
The Mountaineers and USF have never met in postseason play. West Virginia is 4-1-1 all-time against the Bulls, winning the first four meetings, all by 2-0 scores.
Earlier this season, the two teams played to scoreless draw on Sept. 26 in Morgantown.
West Virginia, which boasts a record of 15-4-1, is 6-1-2 in its last nine BIG EAST tournament matches. USF holds a record of 13-4-3 and is 3-2-0 all-time BIG EAST tournament contests.
Sunday’s match also will be streamed live online for free at BIGEAST.TV.
Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 12 and younger) and senior citizens. Admission is free for children age two and younger, and for students from BIG EAST institutions with a valid student ID.
