W. Basketball: WVU Earns Second No. 11 Ranking

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The USA Today/ESPN Division I Top 25 Coaches’ Poll put out its rankings with West Virginia holding down the No. 11 preseason ranking.
It is the second major poll to rank the Mountaineers No. 11 as the Associated Press women’s basketball poll listed WVU as preseason No. 11, Friday.
BIG EAST rival Connecticut was chosen as No. 1 in both major polls. Baylor and Stanford tied for the No. 2 spot, Tennessee followed at No. 4 and Duke rounded out the top five. Behind Duke was Xavier, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Kentucky.
Other BIG EAST opponents were ranked behind the Mountaineers with Notre Dame at No. 12, Georgetown at No. 13 and St. John’s at No. 16. Iowa State, one of the Mountaineers’ non-conference opponents, earned a preseason pick in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll at No. 17.
The Mountaineers will play host to Fairmont State at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6 in exhibition action before opening the regular season, Friday, Nov. 12 against Loyola Maryland in the WVU Coliseum.
