The Mountaineers are now 2-0 at the Paradise Jam as they defeated TCU yesterday, 62-49.With a 5-0 overall record, WVU has held all but one opponent (Duquesne) under 50 points this season.
“We put them at the line too much, but we locked down in our zone and even in our man to man,” West Virginia head coach Mike Carey said. “We came down here to win all three games, but you have to win the first two to win the third one and we’ve been able to do that. We are right on track in doing what we need to do. Iowa State is a very good basketball team, so we’re going to need to play better than we have the last two days.”
The Mountaineers will face No. 19/17 Iowa State at 3:15 p.m., Saturday. ISU is WVU’s second opponent to enter the Paradise Jam with an undefeated record. Holding a 4-0 overall record this season, the Cyclones opened the season with a 58-32 win over Western Illinois and head into this week’s competition off a 69-59 win at Northern Iowa.
The Cyclone offense is led by senior guard Kelsey Bolte, who averages 18 points per game. Freshman forward Hallie Christofferson’s defensive numbers lead the Cyclones as she averages 8.3 rebounds a game and leads the team with six blocks this season. She is also the second-leading scorer as she averages 11 points a game. Saturday’s meeting is the first ever between West Virginia and Iowa State.
