2010 WVU XC Season StatsMORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomores Sarah-Anne Brault and Kaitlyn Gillespie will represent the West Virginia University cross country team at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind., after qualifying as individuals the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced.
“Having two qualify for the championships is a terrific boost for the program,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Finishing fifth (at regionals) and now taking two student-athletes to the finals shows how bright the future can be. Although we are disappointed that we do not have the entire team, we are very proud of how this season progressed.
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their region.
Gillespie led the Mountaineers at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals over the weekend with a 10th-place finish (20:31) to earn all-region honors, while Brault finished in 16th place with a time of 20:51 to also earn all-region recognition.
